Aging can change the shape of a life quickly.

A parent may need more support. A partner’s health can change. Your retirement raises questions you hadn’t expected. Family roles may shift. Decisions get harder. Conversations that used to be simple suddenly aren’t.

I’m Gary Groth, a gerontologist and certified professional coach. I work with people who are trying to make sense of the realities of aging, in their own lives and in the lives of people they love.

Sometimes the work begins with a practical question, or a decision that needs to be made, or a family trying to figure out what happens next. And before you realize, someone has taken on more responsibility than they expected.

Sometimes the difficulty sits in the relationship. People care deeply about one another and still struggle to talk, agree, or move forward.

That’s where my coaching can help.

We start with what is happening in your life right now. From there, we work out what needs attention and what would make the situation feel more manageable.

What is a Genarian?

A genarian is someone whose aging matters to you.

It might be a parent, a partner, a sibling, a friend, a neighbor, or you.

At Genarian, the word is about the relationship rather than the number attached to someone’s age.

Coaching for the realities of aging

Aging can bring changes in health, independence, family roles, relationships, work, retirement, and the way you see what comes next.

You may come to coaching with one clear problem. You may simply know that something has become harder than it needs to be.

Gary works with individuals, couples, and families to understand what is happening and work out what comes next.

What clients say

MEET GARY GROTH

I’m a gerontologist, certified professional coach, and the founder of Genarian.

I’m also living many of the same aging conversations my clients bring to me, within my own family and relationships.

Genarian grew from years of coaching people through change and noticing how often aging sat somewhere at the heart of the conversation.

MEET GARY GROTH

Gary Groth is a certified professional coach, a gerontologist, and the founder of Genarian. Gary is an entrepreneur, solution finder, and impact creator. He responds to the myriad of requests, observations, and complaints about aging made by genarians in his life by getting curious about the topics, the barriers that exist to addressing them, and exploring the solutions that are available. The work of Genarian is personal, real, and quite universal.
